Water control system to monitor closure of New Orleans floodgates | WaterWorld

With partners HKV Lijn in Water and Fugro, Royal Haskoning has won a new contract for water control structures in New Orleans. The project will develop a module that allows the local flood protection authority to monitor the opening and closing of gates on all flood defences. It is expected that the module contributes to a improved planning and coordination. The new system has to be operational for the peak of the hurricane season in September 2010.

BP's broken oil well: Sealed for good? | MSNBC

Officials could know by early Friday if BP's broken oil well in the Gulf of Mexico has been sealed for good.

An analysis of tests on the well done Thursday was scheduled to be completed within 24 hours, letting the federal government and BP PLC know if work last month that was meant to be temporary had the unexpected effect of permanently plugging the gusher.

Faith Hill to perform free Katrina-anniversary concert in New Orleans | nola.com

Country music superstar and Mississippi native Faith Hill will perform a free concert Aug. 24 at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is slated to open the show.
